Service Description

Yin yoga is a passive style of yoga which first came about in the 1990s, making it a very modern branch of yoga family tree! These extended classes will allow time to give a little more detail around the concepts of the practice whilst taking the class. All of the shapes which we explore in yin are designed to allow the muscles to rest (often with the help of props & variations) & the tissues in between to gradually find their true range of motion with the help of time & gravity - for this reason there is only one standing pose in yin (the rest are floor based) & we hold each pose for longer than you would in other styles - typically 3 to 5 minutes. This can be quite a challenge when not used to it so is something we will address during the classes. Whilst yin yoga is a passive style we are looking to find some sensation. to slowly guide the body back to it's natural state of elasticity, so although not designed to be strength building, it's not necessarily a restorative practise either - one of my favourite ways to describe yin is 'resting in stretch' Each workshop is different, but they are standalone
